The Polytechnic, Ibadan lifts lecturers’ ability on work efficiency

In a bid to get the best output from its academic staff, the Department of Physics of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, recently organised a training workshop for them.

The training workshop tagged: Training the trainers was held at the Central Research Laboratory, The Polytechnic, Ibadan.According to the Head of Department, Mr Ademola Akande the main objective of the workshop was to tap from the wisdom of the trailblazers in the department and also enhance the old landmarks for proper continuity of good works.


“There is a need for improvement in our effectiveness in rendering the service we have been employed to render.

Hence, there is a need to organise a workshop of this kind. We can produce good and responsible graduates who will make The Polytechnic, Ibadan proud.”

One of the invited speakers, Dr Oladipo Olakunle Adejumo said each academic staff must have set goals for improvement. He also urged them not to focus only on teaching and examinations but must spend time on research works and publications.

The Rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan, Professor Kazeem Adebiyi, on Friday declared that students’ union is not a vehicle to intimidate fellow students and members of the public.

Adebiyi made this declaration while speaking during the swearing in ceremony of the Students’ Union executives and Students’ Representative Council held at the North Campus Assembly Hall of the institution.

The Rector in his remarks, charged the newly elected Students’ Union Executives in the institution to eschew political vendetta, internal wrangling and destructive youthful exuberance, which can tarnish the image of the institution.

He said, “It is imperative to note that Students’ Union is not a vehicle for intimidating members of the public and fellow students.

“Under no circumstances must student leaders take laws Into their hands in the guise of “ALUTA”

“Note that every member of the Student’s Union Executive and the Senate had signed a matriculation oath which must be abided with.

You are therefore subject to the authority of the Management and Board of Studies,”Professor Adebiyi further charged, urging them to also ensure that their academic programme does not suffer at the expense of engaging in Union activities.”

He assured the students union executives that the management would always welcome constructive contributions to growth and development of the institution as partners in progress, but will not condone any act of lawlessness, gangsterism or dictation on the part of the students’ leaders.

Adebiyi used the occasion to thank the State Government over what he described as tremendous assistance to the institution and promised the loyalty of members of staff as well as their devotion to duty.

The newly elected President of the SU, Blessing Fadare, promised to mobilize the students to support the management efforts towards uplifting the institution.

He equally promised a peaceful administration based on constructive approach to issues.

Malpractices: Examiner from The Polytechnic, Ibadan jails

Ibadan poly examiner jailed 20 years for malpractices

A part-time examiner at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Olanrewaju Kayode, has been jailed for 20 years by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan after being found guilty of collecting financial gratification to help students get higher scores.

Kayode was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences commission on five counts bordering on examination malpractices.

Panels Are Constituted To Investigate Affairs Of State Owned Polytechnics In Oyo State

The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Monday inaugurated a five-member visitation panel each, to look into the management crisis rocking Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa and The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki.

It reports that Makinde, also appointed a seven-man panel to look into the accounts of the 33 Local Local Government Areas and 35 Local Council Development Areas(LCDA) in State between January 2018 and May 2019.

The Governor while speaking during the inauguration of the two visitation panels to the two state owned polytechnics, held at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Agodi, Ibadan, said that the panels will be chaired by a retired Permanent Secretaries in the State Civil Service, Mr. Toyin Akanmu for Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki and Mr. Wole Oladokun

Further reports show that the purported members of the panels were drawn from Ministry of Education, Auditor-General’s Office, Ministry of Justice, and Office of Head of Service.

He said, “you are all aware that the two institutions have been engulfed with management crisis, which have created tension for some time now. The crisis escalated and reached the peak in the two institutions with the suspension of the substantive principal officers by their erstwhile Governing Councils on the allegations of fraudulent practices, and gross misconduct. Consequently, the affairs of each of these institutions are currently being run by an acting management.”

The Governor points that the State Government in its bid to ensure continuous peace and academic progress in the institutions, has taken some steps such that the institutions are able to actualise their core mandates.

He added that among these steps is the composition of a five-man visitation panel each to look into the ongoing management crises with a view to proffering implementable solutions.

Hear him, “The visitation panels have been mandated to commence work immediately and conclude the task within three weeks from the date of their inauguration.”

The Governor in his speech at the inauguration of the seven-man panel set up to look into the accounts of the Local Government Area and Local Council Development Areas,said that the panels will be chaired by Justice S.L. Popoola, and will look into the accounts of the councils, stressing that the action was “highly needed at this point when there is paucity of fund and also the need to restrategise and define means to fund activities of the government.

Let me reassure you that this government is not in any way going after the past administration. We are only setting the stage for our government to take off, and deliver dividends of democracy to the entire citizenry. In fact, I must say that the committee we are inaugurating today is in pursuant to the Public Property Funds(Investigation and Recovery) Panel Law, Cap 138 Vol IV of the Oyo State Law 2000’.

“Section 3 of the law states thus: ‘Whenever it shall appear to the government of the state that any person or body of persons in the custody of any property, belonging to the government or any company in which the state government has any interest, however arising, or is accountable to the government for any contract entered into or purported to have been entered into between him and the government, or monies, which he may have collected on behalf of or for the purposes of the government, the governor may set up a panel to investigate or ascertain the identity and extent of such properties or fund, and make order for recovery of such property or fund.

“The seven-man committee is expected to investigate any dealing with the funds of local government council, and local council development area, and other matters as they affect the local government, and retrieve all monies traceable inauguration, and impound any equipment traceable to any individual.

We therefore give this committee six weeks to complete their assignment”, he added
